Dan Rossouw is Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working locally in the Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust for over 10 years. He trained in South Africa and specialised in the UK in Orthopaedic Surgery, working with leading UK surgeons in London and Reading. He has specialised in shoulder surgery and has been active in research and teaching shoulder surgery locally and nationally.

The advances in treating shoulder conditions have been significant, and pain- relieving surgical techniques are now available. Not all conditions require surgery and the use of exercises, often supervised by therapists, or injection techniques may often be enough to cure many ailments. Advances in anaesthetic techniques mean that the pain of surgery, if required, is minimal and almost all conditions can be treated as day cases. The use of regional local anaesthesia helps to minimise the requirement for general anaesthetics.

At The Kings Oak Hospital, Mr Rossouw dedicates his practice to shoulder conditions. Here, conditions such as muscle tears, dislocations and cartilage tears can be diagnosed with the help of dedicated imaging and treated using arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques. Arthritic joints can be replaced by conventional or resurfacing minimally invasive techniques to relieve pain and provide excellent function.

As with most joint conditions, treatment and recovery is a partnership between the surgeon, patient, therapist and General Practitioner.
